Conservation of Water and Forests - Haritha Project

The Haritha Project was launched by TTD at a cost of 1.5 crore to conserve ground water resources and the forests on the Tirumala Hills. Structured Settlement Investments.  

Developmental activities are being taken up on a massive scale under this project by the TTD Forest Department, based on the satellite image of the areas provided by the State Forest Department, Endowment Selling.

Objectives
  • To conserve rain water and improve the ground water level

  • To protect the forests from fire

Conservation of Water
TTD has constructed several cement checkdams, contour trenches, masonry embankments and percolation tanks to prevent the rain water from draining off the Seshachala Hills.  

Eighty Purchase Structured Settlements kilometre long peripheral trenches have been dug from Rangampeta to Kodur. Besides, 89 checkdams, 136 Gabrion checkdams, 3884 rock fill dams have been built. Check dams have also been constructed on the first and second ghat roads from Tirupati to Tirumala to prevent the draining of water and the erosion of soil.

These sustained efforts have contributed in a substantial improvement in the ground water level. A report given by the Department of Groundwater mentions an increase of 3.155 million cubic metres and 6.59 million cubic metres of recharge in groundwater in the years 2000 and 2001 respectively, Mesothelioma Lawyers San Diego.

Planting of Seedlings
Over 65 lakh seedlings such as those of Red Sanders, Margosa, Teak, Sampangi, Tamarind, Gooseberry and Blackberry have been planted under the Haritha project. Over 40 tons of seeds of Margosa, Tamarind and Blackberry have also been planted.

Protection from Forest Fires

One of the main objectives of the Haritha Project is the development of areas around the important tirthas on the Tirumala Hills. 20,000 saplings have been planted in the premises of S.V. TARIGONDA VENGAMAMBA PROJECT

As per orders of the Executive Officer, Tarigonda Vengamamba Project is under the control of Director, SVETA and Dr. K.J. Krishna Moorthy, Retired Professor, Oriental Research Institute, Tirupati was engaged on honorarium basis for a period of two years to solve the kruthis of Tarigonda Vengamamba.

During the month of January, 2007 a two day Literary National Seminar on Tarigonda Vengamamba was conducted at SVETA to popularize the kruthis rendered by Mathrusri Tarigonda Vengamamba.

Orders were issued for printing of the books of Tarigonda Vengamamba which were solved by Prof. K.J. Krishnamoorthy and recording of Tarigonda Vengamamba kruthis on Lord Venkateswara. The TTD Board resolved to conduct Mathrusri Tarigonda Vengamamba Jayanti on Nrusimha Jayanti day and Vardanti on Sravana Sudda Navami day falling on the particular year.

A statue of Mathrusri Tarigonda Vengamamba was unveiled at M.R. Palle Circle during vardanti day last year (i.e., on 22 nd August, 2007).

Daily programmes on Music, Literature of Tarigonda Vengamamba were started at SVETA Building from February,2008 onwards.

WORKS TO BE TAKEN UP:
  • It is decided to release three more books during the Jayanti day, which falls on 19 th May 2008 and also to release three C.D.
  • To have a 3 feet Bronze statue of Tarigonda Vengamamba for taking procession during the Jayanti and Vardanti days.
  • The Executive Officer has accorded permission to take up the works of Sri Sarangapani – a great poet attached to Tarigonda Vengamamba Project.

Alwar Divya Prabandha Project

The Alwar Divya Prabandha Project was launched by TTD in 1991. Its main objective is to popularise the life and works of the twelve Alwars and other Acharya Purushas who belongs to Srivaishnava Cult. The programmes and discourses are designed in such a way as to spread the message of Madhura Bhakti and Saranagathi that was preached by the Saint Composer of Nalayira Divya Prabandham. The project emphasises the contribution of Sri Ramanuja, the great Srivaishnava saint. He had travelled extensively in South India to popularise and propagate the 4000 Tamil hymns which are known as Nalayira divya Prabandham. Among the 4000, 206 hymns are in praise of Lord Sri Venkateswara and sung by nine Alwars and Andal. The Tiruppavai discourses during Dhanurmasam (from about December 16th to the middle of January), are being arranged in All India Level.

Sri Ramanuja also arranged and regularised several temple procedures, of which the Divya Prabandham is given a unique honour in the daily rituals at the Sri Venkateswara temple and other TTD temples. Festivals
Srikrishnadevaraya festivals are also being conducted every year. Propagation
The project uses the following media for propagation:
  • Programmes conducted periodically on Tirunakshatrams and Avatara Mahotsavams of Alwars and Acharyas to develop the Vaishnav Sampradayam.
  • Publication of booklets, mainly in the Tamil language. This includes Bhagawat Ramanujachar, Nammalwar, Periyalwar, Sri Andal, Chakrath Alwar and Sri Vaishnav Sampradayalu (in English and Telugu).
  • Audio cassettes of the Nalayira Divya Prabandham. The 4000 Pasurams have been recorded by the SV Veda Recording Project of TTD, and released according to the Sri Venkateswara Temple Sampradayam.

Dasa Sahitya Project - 1

Religious and Cultural Programmes
The project conducts the following religious and cultural programmes:
  • Aradhanas of Karnataka Haridasas: These programmes have religious discourses, Harikathas, and musical concerts as main features, and Bhajans and quiz contests as special attractions, arranged at various places in connection with the Vardhantis/Jayanthis of Karnataka Haridasas.
  • Summer Camps: Recitation of 'Harikathamritasara', discourses on Dasa Sahitya, teaching of Haridasa compositions and religious texts are the main features of the Summer Camp.
  • Metlotsavam: Climbing the Seven Hills in the traditional manner, as taught by the Karnataka Haridasas; singing of Bhajans by thousands of members of the Bhajan troupes attired in Haridasa-fashion, and procession of Haridasa portraits through the main streets of Tirupati. Bhajan and quiz contests are the main features of Metlotsavam.
  • 'Samyojana' of Bhajan Troupes: Teaching Bhajan troupes Haridasa compositions according to the tradition introduced by the school; providing them with perfected versions of Haridasa compositions in the order of Taaratamya; registering the Bhajan troupes with the project for achieving uniformity in Bhajan singing and popularising sankeertans through Bhajans.
  • Seminars on Dasa Sahitya: Arranging discourses on 'Dasa Sahitya' by reputed scholars and publishing the papers presented by them.
  • Dasotsavams: Lectures by scholars on the literature of 2/3 Karnataka Haridasas, based on comparative study; music concerts and Bhajans comprising songs composed by Haridasas and Harikathas.

The above programmes are arranged at various places every year. Local Aradhana Committees, Bhajan troupes and other religious and cultural associations are encouraged to participate and conduct programmes.

Propagation of Hari Bhajan Literature And Tradition

Dasa Sahitya Project

The Dasa Sahitya Project propagates and popularises the literature of the saint composers of Karnataka, popularly known as Karnataka Haridasas, who enriched Kannada religious literature with their hymns. Purchase Structured Settlements.

Annamacharya Project

Sri Tallapaka Annamacharya was a saint composer in the fifteenth century, who hailed from the Tallapaka village, in the Rajampet mandal of Cuddapah district, Andhra Pradesh, India. Annamacharya was the very first vaggeyakara (composer) in Telugu and established a tradition which was later followed by a number of saint composers like Tyagaiah and Kshetraiah.

Annamacharya composed 32,000 keertanas (devotional songs) in praise of Lord Venkateswara.

The Annamacharya Project was established in 1978 with a view to propagate the tatwa andmahatwa of Lord Sri Venkateswara.

Using the vast creative literature of the Tallapaka poet, the Annamacharya project seeks to inculcateMadhura Bhakti and Saranagati to Lord Venkateswara, amongst the public.

The project functions through three wings - Music, Research and Publications, and Recording.

Music Wing
Young and talented artistes, in both vocal and instrumental music, form music troupes which perform across India - in temples, music sabhas (concerts), important pilgrim centres, educational institutions, villages and other cultural organisations.

Every year Annamacharya Vardhanti festivals are conducted in Tirumala, Tirupati and Tallapaka, the birth place of Annamacharya. Annamacharya Jayanti festivals are also conducted at the national level.

Group rendering of Annamacharya Saptagiri sankeertanas by eminent musicians and artistes belonging to the project is organised in Andhra Pradesh during the Annamacharya Vardhanti and Jayanti festivals. Annamacharya Aradhana Festivals are also conducted every year.

Annamacharya keertanas are rendered daily during the Unjal Seva of Srivaru in the Tirumala temple, and in other local TTD-managed temples. Annamacharya has composed a number of folk versions of his keertanas like, Jajaras, Dampulla songs, Suvvi songs, Elapadas and duets. Music concerts, Harikathas and folk programs are conducted regularly.

The Annamacharya Project plans to introduce a two-year certificate course, in which young music artistes will be provided with intensive training in Annamacharya compositions. The objective of this course is to familiarise young artistes with the literature and music of Annamacharya Vangmayam.

Research & Publications Wing
On behalf of the Annamacharya Project, research fellowships are granted to young researchers who pursue doctoral programmes on Annamacharya's life and works. To date, nearly 50 dissertations have been produced by different universities. Efforts are on to obtain technical recognition from Sri Venkateswara University to streamline research activities with a techno-academic outlook.

Annamacharya's compositions and the works of other Tallapaka poets are printed and published from time to time, according to the demand from devotees and researchers.

Recording Wing
To popularise Annamacharya's songs, audio cassettes are produced and marketed. The recording work is carried out by the Sri Venkateswara Recording project in co-ordination with the Annamacharya project.

Artistes belonging to the Annamacharya project, as well as other professional artistes lend their voices for recording. Music stalwarts like M S Subbulakshmi, M Balamurali Krishna, Voteti Venkateswarlu, Nedunuri Krishnamurthy, Nookala Chinna Sathyanarayana, Mani Krishnaswamy, Vani Jayaram, Sobha Raju and others have lent their voices to the cause of the project.

HINDU DHARMA PRACHARA PARISHAD (HDPP)

The HDPP originally established in the year 1969 as “Hindu Dharma Pratisthanam” with an objective to propagate and promote Hindu Dharma all over the country. It is renamed as “Hindu Dharma Prachara Parishad”(HDPP) in the year 2007 and became one of the most important wings of TTD.

Objectives:
  • To promote, propagate and preserve Hindu Sanatana Dharma by the way of conductive religious activities in a wide manner
  • Preparation, publication and dissemination of information or literature relating to Sanatana Dharma
  • Setting up Dharma Prachara Mandalis in districts
  • Extending financial aid to certain organizations which are advocating for cause of preservation of Hindu Sanatana Dharma

 Dharmic Programmes:
SRI SRINIVASA KALYANAM
With an aim to bring lord closer to His devotees, TTD started this unique programme of celestial wedding of the replica of processional deities in all the rural and urban areas not only in the state but also across the country. This programme has become a huge hit within short period of time as the devotees had the opportunity to witness the grand wedding of Lord sitting right at their home places. Now TTD has set up an exclusive Kalyanotsavam Project to perform these celestial weddings across the country as well abroad with certain specific guide lines.

MANAGUDI
To enlighten the masses especially the youth of the state about our ancient traditions and values enshrined in the temples which are the epicenters of our rich heritage and culture, TTD has designed a unique programme-Managudi which is observed twice in a year in the auspicious months of “Shravana” and “Kartheeka” as they are considered to be very auspicious for worshipping the deities. A mass temple festival is conducted with public participation across thousands of temples in the State.

SUBHAPRADAM
With an aim to impart knowledge to the youth on human values, TTD designed this unique programme where in the students of Class X, Inter I and II years will be give training on various moral subjects for a week during the summer vacation.

Sri Venkateshwara Balamandir Trust

The T.T.Devasthanams has undertaken various social and welfare activities in fulfillment of its Motto of “SERVING TO THE LORD BY SERVING HUMANITY”. With a view to give a helping hand to the destitute and orphans, the TTD has established Sri Venkateswara Balamandir in Tirupati in the year 1943.

Children, both boys and girls, who have no parents as well as those whose father expired and mother is unable to bring up the children and vice-versa are admitted to this institution. The TTD is providing accommodation, food, clothing and education to the children admitted to Sri Venkateswara Balamandir from 1 st class onwards. The children are given education upto graduation in TTD run schools and colleges. Meritorious students are also given coaching for EAMCET. It is the motto of the TTD to see that orphans admitted to the Balamandir live on their own. Give a helping hand to the orphans.

The TTD has created a separate Trust for improving this institution with following object.(a) To run an Orphanage for orphans, destitute and disadvantaged children of both sexes; (b) To provide free accommodation and boarding to orphans, destitutes and disadvantaged children; and (c) To provide free education to these children upto post graduation and professional courses like MBBS and Engineering.

Sri Venkateswara Heritage Preservation Trust

Our Temples symbolize India’s hallowed culture and Sanathana Dharma. Temples, which are the repositories of sculpture, paintings, music literature, dance and other art forms, are built for the prosperity and wellbeing of all people. According to Sastras, God manifests Himself in the images and fulfils the desires of the devotees on account of the spiritual penance of the great sages who consecrated the deities in the temples and the regular rituals performed there and due to the enchanting beauty of the idols, which conform to the Silpa Agamas. It is the bounden duty and responsibility of every Indian to preserve these temples, which are the centers of vedic culture, to renovate any dilapidated portion of the temples or rebuild them. It is an uphill task for individuals alone to undertake their preservation and renovation. With a view to accomplish this lofty aim, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams has launched ‘Sri Venkateswara Heritage Preservation Trust’.

Annadanam Samam Danam Trilokeshu Na Vidhathe

This famous from Vedas, means Annadanam(offering food) is supreme and incomparable to any charity. Food is the basic requirement for all humans. Thus according to Vedas, the one who does annadanam to devotees, attains heaven (Punya Loka) in this Universe (Brahmanda) itself. In this whole universe, the creation and its progression depends on food. Hence giving food to the devotees is more than attaining heaven.

Donating 1000 elephants & horses, donating 10 million cows, donating any number of vessels of silver and gold, donating the entire land till sea, offering the entire services of the clan, helping in the marriage of 10 million women, all this is never ever equal to Annadanam-feeding the hungry and needy.

The temple administration of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams being the custodian of world famous temple of Lord Venakteswara strongly believes that "Service to Humanity is Service to Divinity". It took up the noble task of feeding millions and millions of pilgrims who throng the temple of Tirumala across the world, every day on free of cost.

Shirdi Sai Satcharitra - Chapter - 50

Stories of (1) Kakasaheb Dixit (2) Shri Tembye Swami (3)Balaram Dhurandhar.

Chapter 50 of the original Satcharita has been incorporated in Chapter 39, as it dealt with the same subject matter. Now, Chapter 51 of the Satcharita has been treated here as Chapter 50. This Chapter gives the stories of (1) Kakasaheb Dixit (2) Shri Tembye Swami (3) Balaram Dhurandhar.

Preliminary
Victory be unto Sai Who is the main-stay of the Bhaktas, Who is our Sadguru, Who expounds the meaning of the Gita and Who gives us all powers. Oh Sai, look favourably on us and bless us all.
The sandal-wood trees, grow on the Malaya mountains and ward off heat. The clouds, pour their rain-water and thereby, cool and refresh all the people. The flowers, blossom in the spring and, enable us to worship God, therewith. So the stories of Sai Baba come forth, in order to give solace and comfort to the readers. Both, those, who tell; and those who hear the stories of Baba, are blessed and holy, as also the mouths of the former and the ears of the latter.

It is well-established fact, that though we try hundreds of means or sadhanas, we do not attain the spiritual goal of life, unless a Sadguru blesses us with his grace. Hear the following story in illustration of this statement

Kakasaheb Dixit (1864-1926)
Mr. Hari Sitaram alias Kakasaheb Dixit was born in 1864 A.D., in a Vadnagara Nagar - Brahmin-family, at Khandwa(C.P). His primary education was done at Khandwa, Hinganghat, and secondary education at Nagpur. He came to Bombay for higher eduaction and studied first in the Wilson College and then in the Elphinstone College. After graduation in 1883 A.D., he passed his LL.B. and solicitor's examination; and then served in the firm of the Govt. Solicitors, Messrs Little and Co., and then, after sometime started a solicitors' firm of his own.

Before 1909 A.D., Sai Baba's name was not familiar to Kakasaheb, but after that he soon becomes His great devotees. While he was staying at Lonavla, he happened to see his old friend. Mr. Nanasaheb Chandorkar. Both spent some time, in talking about many things. Kakasaheb described to him, how when he was boarding a train in London, he met with an accident, in which his foot slipped and was injured. Hundreds of remedies gave him no relief. Nanasaheb then told him that if he wished to get rid of the pain and lameness of his leg, he should go to his Sadguru-Sai Baba. He also gave him all the particulars of Sai Baba and mentioned to him Sai Baba's dictum "I draw to Me My man fram far off, or even across the seven seas, like a sparrow with a string fastened to its feet." He also made it clear to him that if he be not Baba's man, he would not be attracted to Him and given a darshan. Kakasaheb was pleased to hear all this, and said to Nanasaheb that he would go to Baba, see Him and pray to Him to cure not so much his lame leg, but bring round his lame, fickle mind and give him eternal Bliss.

Some time after, Kakasaheb went to Ahmednagar; and stayed with sirdar Kakasaheb Mirikar in connection with securing votes for a seat, in the Bombay Legislative Council. Mr. Balasaheb Mirikar, son of Kakasaheb Mirikar, who was a Mamalatdar of Kopergaon, also came at that time to Ahmendnagar in connection with a Horse-Exhibition there. After the election business was over, Kakasaheb Dixit wanted to go to Shirdi and both the Mirikars, father and son were also thinking in their house about a fit and proper person, as a guide, with whom he should be sent there. There Sai Baba was arranging things for his reception. Shama got a telegram from his father-in-law at Ahemdnagar, stating that his wife was seriously ill, and that he should come to see her with his wife. Shama with Baba's permission went there, and saw his mother-in-law and found her improving and better. Nanasaheb Panshe and Appasaheb Gadre happened to see Shama, on their way to the Exhibition Dixit there and take him to Shirdi along with him. Kakasaheb Dixit and the Mirikars were also informed of Shama's arrival. In the evening Shama came to Mirikars, who introduced him to Kakasaheb. They arranged that Shama should leave for Kopergaon with Kakasaheb by the 10 O'Clock night train. After this was settled, a curious thing happened. Balasaheb Mirikar threw aside the veil or covering on Baba's big portrait and showed the same to Kakasaheb. He was surprised to see that He, Whom he was going to meet at Shirdi, was already there in the form of His portrait to greet him, at this juncture. He was much moved and made his prostration before the portarit. This portrait belonged to Megha. The glass over it was broken and it was sent to Mirikars for repairs. The necessary repairs had been already made; and it was decided to return the portarit with Kakasaheb and Shama.

Before ten O'Clock, they went to the station and booked their passage; but when the train arrived, they found that the second class was overcrowded; and then there was no room for them. Fortunately, the guard of the train turned out to be an acquaintance of Kakasaheb; and he put them up in the first class. Thus they travelled comfortably and alighted at Kopergaon. Their joy knew no bounds when they saw there Nanasaheb Chandorkar, who was also bound for Shirdi. Kakasaheb and Nanasaheb embraced each other, and then after bathing in the sacred Godavari river they started for Shirdi. After coming there and getting Baba's darshan, Kakasaheb's mind was melted, his eyes were full of tears and he was overflowing with joy. Baba said to him, that he also was waiting for him; and had sent Shama ahead to receive him.

Kakasaheb then passed many happy years in Baba's company. He buit a Wada in Shirdi which he made as his, more or less, permanent home. The experiences he got from Baba are so manifold, that it is not possible to relate them all here. The readers are advised to read a special (Kakasaheb Dixit) No. of 'Shri Sai Leela' magazine, Vol 12, No. 6-9. we close this account with the mention of one fact only. Baba had comforted hi by saying that in the end "He will take him in air coach (Viman)", (i.e., secure him a happy death). This came out true. On the 5th of July 1926 A.D., he was travelling in the train with Hemadpant and talking about Sai Baba. He seemed deeply engrossed in Sai Baba. All of a sudden he threw his neck on Hemadpant's shoulder, and breathed his last with no trace of pain and uneasiness.

Shri Tembye Swami
We come to the next story, which shows how Saints love aech other with fraternal affection. Once Shri Vasudevanand Saraswati, known as Shri Tembye Swami encamped, at Rajamahendri (Andhra Country), on the banks of Godavari. He was a devout, orthodox, Jnani and Yogi Bhakta of the God Dattatreya. One, Mr. Pundalikrao, pleader of Nanded (Nizam State) went to see him, with some friends. While they were talking with him, the names of Shirdi and Sai Baba were casually mentioned. Hearing Baba's name, the Swami bowed with his hands; and taking a coconut gave it to Pundalikrao, and said to him, "Offer this to my brother Sai, with my pranam and request Him not to forget me, but ever love me." He also added that the Swamis do not generally bow to others, but in this case an exception had to be made. Mr. Pundalikrao consented to take the fruit and his message to Baba. The Swami was right in calling Baba a brother, for as he maintained an Agnihotra (Sacred fire) day and night, in his orthodox fashion; Baba too kept His Agnihotra, i.e., Dhuni ever burning in the Masjid.

After one month Pundalikrao and others left for Shirdi with the coconut, and reached Manmad, and as they felt thirsty they went to a rivulet for drinking water. As water should not be drunk on an empty stomach, they took out some refreshments, i.e., Chivda (flattened rice mixed with spice). The Chivda tasted pungent and in order to soften it, some one suggested and broke the coconut and mixed its scrapings with it. Thusthey made the Chivda mare tasty and palatable. Unfortunately the fruit broken, turned out to be the same, that was entrusted to Pundalikrao. As they neared Shirdi, Pundalikrao remembered the trust, i.e., the coconut and was very sorry to learn that it was broken and utilized. Fearing and trembling, he came to Shirdi and saw Baba. Baba had already received a wireless message, regarding the coconut, from the Tembye Swami, ad Himself asked Pundalikrao first to give the things sent by His brother. He held fast Baba's Feet, confessed his guilt and negligence, repented and asked for Baba's pardon. He offered to give another fruit as a substitute, but Baba refused to accept it saying that the worth of that coconut was by far, many times more, than an ordinary one and that it could not be replaced by another one. Baba also added- "Now you need not worry yourself any more about the matter. It was on account of my wish that the coconut was entrusted to you, and ultimately broken on the way; why should you take the responsibility of the actions on you? Do not entertain the sense of doership in doing good, as well as for bad deeds; be entirely prideless and egoless in all things and thus your spiritual progress will be rapid." What a beautiful spiritual instruction Baba gave!

Balaram Dhurandhar (1878-1925)
Mr. Balaram Dhurandhar belonged to the Pathare Prabhu community, of Santacruz, Bombay. He was an advocate of the Bombay High Court and sometime Principal of the Governament Law School, Bombay. The whole Dhurandhar family was pious and religious. Mr. Balaram served his community, and wrote and published an account of it. He then turned his attention to spiritual and religious matters. He studied carefully Gita, and its commentary Jnaneshwari; and other philosiphical and other metaphysical works. He was a devotee of Vithoba of Pandharpur. he came in contact with Sai Baba in 1912 A.D.. Six months previous, his brothers Babulji and Vamanrao came to Shirdi and took Baba's darshan. They returned home, and mentioned their sweet experiences to Balaram and other members. Then they all decided to see Sai Baba. Before they came to Shirdi, Baba declared openly that - "To-day many of my Darbar people are coming." The Dhurandhar brothers were astonished to hear this remark of Baba, from others; as they had not given any previous intimation of their trip. All the other people prostrated themselves before Baba, and sat talking to Him. Baba said to them- "These are my Darbar people to whom I referred before" and said to the Dhurandhar brothers- "We are acquainted with each other for the last sixty generations." All the brothers were meek and modest, they stood with joined hands, staring at Baba's Feet. All the Sattwic emotions such as tears, horripilation, choking, etc., moved them and they were all happy. Then they went to their lodging, took their meals and after taking a little rest again came to the Masjid. Balaram sat near Baba, messaging His Legs. Baba Who was smoking a chillam advanced it towards him and beckoned him to smoke it. Balaram was not accustomed to smoking, still he accepted the pipe, smoked it with great difficulty; and returned it reverentially with a bow. This was the most auspicious moment for Balaram. He was suffering from Asthma for six years. This smoke completely cured him of the disease, which never troubled him again. Some six years later, on a particular day, he again got an attack of Asthma. This was precisely the time when Baba took his Mahasamadhi.

The day of this visit was a Thursday; and the Dhurandhar brothers had the good fortune of witnessing the Chavadi, Balaram saw the lusture of pandurang on Baba's face and next morning at the Kakad-Arti time, the same phenomenon - the same lusture of his Beloved Deity- Pandurang was visible again on Baba's face.

Mr. Balaram Dhurandhar wrote, in Marathi, the life of the Maharashtra Saint Tukaram, but did not survive to see its publication. It was published, later on, by his brothers in 1928. In a short note on Balaram's life given in the beginning of the book, the above account of Balaram's visit has been fully corroborated therein (Vide page 6 of the book).
