Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy in Srinivasa Mangapuram is a mirror image of Sri Venkateswara Swamy in Tirumala. Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy Temple, Srinivasa Mangapurm is located near Swarnamukhi Kenal, Chandragiri and 10 KM away from west side of Tirupati.Srinivasa Mangapuram is a small village and well connected by road from Tirupati to Madanapalli and from Chandragiri. First name of Srinivasa Mangapuram is Sidhakutami and later called as Srinivaspuram and then Srinivasa Mangapuram.
Srinivasudu (Sri Venkateswara Swamy) married Padmavathi Devi in Narayanavanam (Near Puttur). Srinivasudu and Padmavathi visited Agasthya ashram, Tondavada on the way to Tirumala through the historical way of Srivari Mettu. Agasthya muni created the new married couple stick with him for 6 months, telling that new married must not climb a hill for 6 months. Agasthya muni was very blessed to possess venkateswara swamy as his guest. Padmavathi Devi and Swamy varu accepted Maharshi's statements and decided to stay in the Mangapuram. When swamy varu went to Tirumala at the end of six months, he gave two boons to his devotees. First, Pilgrims who can not climb the Tirumala hill for his darshan might visit the "Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy Temple, Srinivasa Mangapuram" at the bottom of the Tirumala and they would get constant profit. Second, those facing problems or struggles to get wedding would wed if they tie a "Kalyanouthsavam Kankanam" on his their hand.
This ancient 'Sthala' had dilapidated attributed to the fury of nature and foreign invasions. The hamlet called 'Sidhakutam Srinivasapuram' srinivasa mangapuram was given to Annamacharya within the year 1540. Attributable to the relentless efforts of his grandchild Chinna Thirumalaiyya, the srinivasa mangapuram temple was restored in step with the 'aagama' rules and daily pujas and festivals had been conducted since 22-03-1540, the stone inscriptions say. Within the year 1967, the administration of the temple was confiscated by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasth nam from the priest Sundararaja Swamy. The new management organized everything right from daily pujas to the facilities for the devotees for 'darshan' of the Loard. From the year 1981, 'Nithya Kalyana ustav, and Brahmotsavam are being held.
This temple complex comprises of three shrines. The central one enshrines double life size deity called venkateswara vishnu. The side chambers contain idols of reclining ranganatha. The second chamber contains the idols lakshmi narayana. The third chamber contains the idols of vishvakshamapathi. The mandapa seems to be a slightly later addition and belongs to 10th - 16th century A.D. The temple has a raised plinth containing ornamental mouldings on upana, adhishthana and superimposed by a vedika freze.
The outer walls of the temple are devoid of ornamentation. Within the temple complex, Dhwaja sthambha with pataka on top, marks of vaishnava traditions, garuda dheaja platforms are located. Door jambs of the temple consits mala vahakas, ornated foliages with makara torana and lady attendants and lalata containing gaja lakshmi motif. Elephant, cavalry are sculptured on outer walls. The mandapas located outside the temple belonging to 14th - 16th century A.D. Artha mandapa and maha mandapa are constructed square in plan with pillars and pilasters. These contain toranas of gaja (Elephant), Simha (Lion), Makara (Crocodile) with square base, Hectogonal and circular parts above along with pushpa potikas, Lotus buds and friezes. These embellished pillars and walls are considered to be sculptural feast to the visitors. Also the themes from epics and puranas are depicted. These artistic sculptured ornamentations indicated the completeness and culmination of Vijayanagara style.
There is an excellent foot path way to Tirumala through Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy Temple, Srinivasa Mangapuram knowns as Srivari Mettu (2,450 steps). Srivari Mettu is a historical and developed by Sri Krishna Devaraya, King of Vijayanagar Empire.This is the most convenient way for pilgrims who goes to Tirumala by walk from Chandragiri Direction.
